Why make accessible web solutions?

Think that web accessibility is a pain to implement and not worth it because of the size of the audience?  Think again!

Did you know….

  • The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that approximately 15% of the world's population live with some form of disability.
  • Studies suggest that anywhere from 2% to 10% of internet users rely on screen readers to access and navigate digital content.
  • It is estimated that 8% of men and 0.5% of women are colour blind. In Canada, that is 1,560,334 men and almost 100 000 women!
  • According to the WHO, it's estimated that approximately 1.3 billion people worldwide live with some form of vision impairment. They also estimate that 1 in 3 people over the age of 65 years have some form of vision impairment.
  • Cognitive challenges affect a wider number of people and affect someone’s ability to understand what you are communicating on your website. They include developmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. They also include neurodegenerative disorders and age-related cognitive impairment.
